Be careful of my blind spot!
Don't tailgate. Try to maintain a proper following distance.
Don’t abruptly change lanes around me because it takes me longer to slow down than it does for a passenger car.
Don’t cut me off!
Watch out when I’m turning, because left turns and right turns are some of the most dangerous driving maneuvers for truck drivers, and have the greatest potential for causing a crash with a pedestrian, bicyclist or car.
Don't draft behind me! Trucks can't see you when you are drafting them. You can't see what is coming in the road, and your response time is greatly diminished.
Give me more space in bad weather, because it takes me longer to slow down.
Just because I’m in a big truck doesn’t mean you should use your bright lights when behind me. Use your low-beam headlights when you’re behind me at night, just as you would with anyone, as the high-beams limit my visibility.
Never pass on the right. It is tempting when you are behind a slow truck, but don’t do it. And NEVER pass on the shoulder. Some OTR Drivers refer to those who pass on the right as suicide passing. Don't be a statistic, wait until it is safe to pass them legally.
Most trucks have cameras. Most accidents with big rigs are caused by the driver's of the smaller vehicles, and now footage from truck cameras can assist if any legal disputes arise.

Safety on the road is always a priority for Oakley Drivers.

Oakley Transport is passionate about being involved and making an impact. Most recently, the company spread their care for the community by participating in a show-and-tell at Wahneta Elementary School in Polk County for a group of students who had been learning about the trucking industry. An Oakley employee delivered a truck to the institute and provided a detailed, hands-on tour of how the they operated - explaining how each vehicle could transport hundreds of pounds of liquid chocolate. The students buzzed with excitement as they touched and inspected the shiny metal of the cargo containers and numerous tires. At the end of the lesson, they were all given a chocolate bar to solidify and remember the new information about the company and industry.
